This was my first trial in trying to do a spiral to replicate the top of the whirlpool. First, I experimented with chalk as I have not experienced with that medium. After this experience, I felt that chalk was easy to work with and it was easy to blend the colours together to create a smoother effect. However, as I will be doing it in a large canvas, I felt that this medium will take to long to create a big whirlpool. Then, I experimented with colour pencils. I have much experience in using this medium and it is used for basic artworks. The colour pencil allowed me to have a better control, which then results me to do more detailed strokes. However, I faced the same problem as I did with the chalk. Since I will be doing this in a large canvas, using colour pencils would be too time consuming. |
To show the theme of humanity, I decided to draw hands grasping each other, as if one was saving the other. I first did this using pencil to get a fair idea of how to draw it. Then I used these metallic colour pencil to see whether I preferred it coloured in or without colour. In comparison, I felt that the one without colour was much neater and it showed the hands much better than with it coloured |
Since the other two mediums were unsuitable, I decided to experiment with acrylic paint. I found this method much more suitable as I was able to cover much more space more efficiently. I practiced the method of swirling with different shades of blue paints. this created a nice effect and really showed the whirlpool that I was going for. |
